STAINLESS STEEL "THE VALUE OPTION" LOGOS -
GRAPHICS STANDARDS GUIDE
SPECIALTY STEEL INDUSTRY OF NORTH AMERICA (SSINA)
An identity program has been created for the Specialty Steel Industry of
North America (SSINA).
The following graphics standards guide contains the basic specifications
and guidelines for the use of the SSINA "THE VALUE OPTION and S Design"
and related marks.
These standards have been developed to ensure the integrity of the logo in
all media, color and dimensions, establish consistent use of the identity
across state, national and international boundaries, and project a single
identity to our various audiences.

"THE VALUE OPTION and S DESIGN" and Related Marks
The logo is an integral part of our identity. It consists of two elements:
the symbol and the words "THE VALUE OPTION". The service mark symbol
-- SM -- must ALWAYS appear with the symbol when it is used alone and with
the logotype. The -- SM -- should always appear with the mark in the position
shown.
The logotype is made up of the words "THE VALUE OPTION"
The symbol and the logotype will almost always appear as a single unit which
should always measure at least 3 ½ picas wide. Do not use the logo:
· in the middle of text copy or a headline
· as a background for type or artwork
· as a background pattern of any kind
The name, address, phone number and/or web site of your company should not
appear with the logo. You may not use the mark to suggest or imply a relationship
or ownership to your company. Similarly, it is impermissible to incorporate
brand or company name into the marks.
To ensure name recognition, SSINA includes the logo on every publication
and communication piece. Therefore, it should be a first consideration when
determining layout and design and color.
There will be a few unavoidable situations in which the symbol (the S design)
and the logotype will be separated. It should be understood that the symbol
should be used alone, without the logotype, ONLY in specific situations. For
example, the symbol may be used without the logotype where there is a described
or pre-determined area for the placement of the logo that will not allow the
logotype to also appear, such as on computerized forms (invoices, application
and registration forms); checks; accessories, such as lapel pins; items of
recognition and awards; and when you are required to use a logo smaller than
3 ½ picas. Other situations may also exist, but use caution when considering
using only the symbol.
Reproduction-quality artwork - a term used by designers and printers to mean
that its quality will not be harmed by reprinting - should always be used
in preparing materials for publications.
COLORS
Official SSINA colors:
As a registered service mark symbol, and to protect unauthorized groups from
using it, we must comply with firm rules about the colors used.
Two-color applications:
The official "THE VALUE OPTION and S Design" colors are blue for
the symbol and gray for the logotype.
One-color applications:
It is perfectly acceptable to show the "THE VALUE OPTION and S Design"
in one color. {FOR EXAMPLE, the three acceptable one-color applications are
100% black, 100% blue (PANTONE 293), and 100% gray (PANTONE 424)}.
*Pantone, Inc., check-standard trademark for color reproduction and color
reproduction materials.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Does the S design always have to appear in the logo?
Yes, that is the essence of the entire logo. When the S design stands alone,
it is no longer the SSINA logo.
Is the service mark symbol necessary?
Yes, the service mark symbol is extremely important as it designates the
status of the logo as a service mark. It should appear each time the logo
is used.
What colors must I use?
The SSINA logo has three official colors: 100% black, 100% blue (PANTONE
293) and 100% gray (PANTONE 424).
Do I have to use the entire logo?
While SSINA prefers that the entire logo be used when possible, there are
certain instances when the logotype can be omitted. Examples include checks,
application forms, awards
Can I add the name or acronyms of my company to the SSINA logo?
No. Any use of the logo outside the identified standards weakens our claim
to exclusive rights and threatens our registration.
Are there limitations to the size of the logo I can use?
Yes, the symbol (the S design) should never be less than 3 ½ picas
wide.
